If all we needed to change damaging habits and beliefs was willpower, we could just tell ourselves to think or act differently and we would! As we know, it takes more than willpower to change damaging beliefs and habits. Our habits and beliefs live in the unconscious mind and though we see them in action we know that they don't go away just because we want them to.
As a hypnotherapist, I know how to "talk" to the unconscious mind to release the potential that is inside you. I’ve seen the massive changes within a person when their unconscious mind is working with them and not against them. Using Hypnotherapy and NLP I can assist you in overcoming a myriad of problems including bad habits, lack of confidence, fears and phobias. My training also includes specific techniques to assist clients who have experienced past trauma that has resulted in PTSD. What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is being in a state of narrowed focus of attention, a natural state that we go into and out of daily. Think about when you've been focused on a project or reading a book and all of a sudden a few hours have gone by - you are in a state of self hypnosis! In this state we become better at learning because this narrowing of focus makes us more 'suggestible'. It is the perfect state to effect change. As it is a natural state, one where you are always in control. Hypnosis is wonderful for changing bad habits, eliminating phobias and instilling confidence, amongst many other things. It is a useful tool to recover from PTSD.
What happens in Hypnosis?
The client is seated comfortably and the therapist gently guides the client into a deep state of relaxation. In this deep state, the unconscious mind is accessible and open to take on new learnings to bring about lasting change. It is important to understand that you are always aware and in control and hypnosis is NOT mind control on the part of the Practitioner.
What is NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)
NLP explores the relationship between how we think (neuro), how we communicate both verbally and non-verbally (linguistic) and our patterns of behaviour and emotion. It is a more active therapy using visualisation and dialogue. Think of that old LP vinyl record, your brain automatically goes to the same track when faced with the same situation, however that track mightn't be the best track for you any longer! Using NLP, we write a more resourceful, useful track so that your brain goes to that track instead, resulting in a more beneficial outcome for you. NLP is great for overcoming old scenarious that are still coming back to haunt us, e.g. an abusive childhood.
How long is a session?
The first session is 1½ hours, follow ups on the same issue are usually 1 hour.
How many will I need?
The hypnotherapy sessions are a partnership between me and my client and as such the number of sessions required is relative to the complex nature of the issue. Quit smoking and diminishing alcohol abuse usually have very good results in one session, however some clients may require further sessions depending on their circumstances. Other issues may require 3 or more sessions to provide a significant, lasting change. As a solution focused hypnotherapist, my aim is to help my client achieve their goals in a timely manner.
